Tonight at 9 p.m. on WSRE, "Conversations with Jeff Weeks" welcomes Jerry Maygarden. Combining his experience from the healthcare industry and the political world, former Pensacola Mayor and former Florida House Majority Leader Jerry Maygarden shares his perspectives on healthcare reform, economic development and politics. Maygarden, author of "Inside the Bubble: Monographs and Memories from the Other Florida," reveals some of his experiences as a leading state political figure, as well as details of his lunch with Cuban leader Fidel Castro. "Conversations with Jeff Weeks" is a half-hour, weekly series that is "personality-driven," featuring in-depth discussions with unique individuals and leading newsmakers from all walks of life. The program airs every Friday night at 9 p.m. on WSRE, PBS for the Gulf Coast.
A native of the Florida Panhandle, Maygarden began his political career in local government serving as city councilman and mayor of Pensacola from 1985 until his election to the Florida House of Representatives in 1994. He served eight years in the state legislature, including two terms as majority leader. He also served as chairman of the appropriations committee. Maygarden is a frequent speaker at assemblies for business, government and medical-related associations. He currently serves as president of the Baptist Health Care Foundation, an affiliate of Baptist Health Care of Pensacola.
