Author and Literary Professor Dr. David Earle on Conversations with Jeff Weeks Oct. 28

Thursday, October 28 at 7:30 p.m. on WSRE, "Conversations with Jeff Weeks" welcomes local author and UWF literary professor Dr. David Earle. Dr. Earle, prize-winning author of All Man: Hemingway, 1950's Men's Magazines and the Masculine Persona, takes a unique look at the 1950's and analyzes the media's portrayal of American literary icon Ernest Hemingway and masculinity in general. Viewers will learn about Hemingway's influence on the 1950's popular culture, as well as how Hemingway reached a level of celebrity that perhaps no other writer ever has.

Dr. Earle, who received his Ph.D. in 2004 from the University of Miami, is an Assistant Professor of English at the University of West Florida, specializing in transatlantic modernism and print culture. His interest in popular culture and book collecting has led him to examine the forms of mass circulation magazines, especially the sensational pulps of the twentieth century, with two published books - Recovering Modernism: Pulps, Paperbacks, and the Prejudice of Form and All Man: Hemingway, 1950's Men's Magazines and the Masculine Persona.

"Conversations with Jeff Weeks" is a half-hour, weekly series that is "personality-driven," featuring in-depth discussions with unique individuals and leading newsmakers from all walks of life. The program airs Thursday nights at 7:30 p.m., Friday nights at 9 p.m. and Sunday mornings at 10 a.m. on WSRE, PBS for the Gulf Coast.
