The Gills is a five-member band with an eclectic and soulful sound. They recently had the honor of performing as the opening act for Sheryl Crow in April 2008. The band was started by Jesse Wheeler who was diagnosed with leukemia in 2003. Wheeler turned to music as a form of support and therapy. With a guitar and a Beatles songbook, Wheeler began to write his own songs and today has over 80 original, fully completed
songs. Wheeler describes their music as upbeat and “Beatle-ish.” The band members are high school friends, siblings and a fellow cancer survivor. Today, The Gills can be seen playing regular gigs at The Handlebar, Sluggo’s and The Red Door. The Gills members include: Jesse Wheeler (vocals, guitar), Nathan Dillaha (guitar), Andrew Prince (bass), Matthew Prince (drums) and Allan Castleberry (piano, keys).
