WSRE Invites Public to "Inside Healthcare" Town Hall Meeting April 6

Come join in the discussion on Tuesday, April 6 as WSRE hosts the third in a series of four “Inside Healthcare” public town hall meetings at WSRE’s Jean & Paul Amos Performance Studio located on Pensacola Junior College’s Pensacola campus. The topic will be “Medical Technology” at this town hall meeting, part of WSRE’s ongoing health care initiative and commitment to address our community’s important health issues. Free and open to the public, doors will open at 6 p.m. and the meeting/TV taping will begin promptly at 7 p.m. The audio portion of the meeting will be broadcast live on NewsRadio 1620AM. The television program is scheduled to air on WSRE Tuesday, April 20 at 7 p.m. and Thursday, April 22 at 7:30 p.m.

America’s medical technology ranks with the best in the world. Americans have pioneered some of the boldest and most promising cancer treatments, lifesaving surgical procedures, and pharmacological breakthroughs. However, medical technology is expensive and contributes to rising healthcare costs. An expert panel of guests will explore medical technology, its costs, and what’s available in our area.

The panel of experts will include:

William Bailey, M.D., F.A.C.S., Thoracic Surgeon, Cardiothoracic Surgical Associates

Amanda Gilmore, Ph.D., Associate Director, Xcenda

Harish Malhotra, M.D., Medical Oncologist, Sacred Heart Medical Oncology Group

Gaylon McCollough, M.D., F.A.C.S.., Facial Plastic Surgeon, McCollough Institute for Appearance & Health

Paula Montgomery, M.D., Retired Medical Director, Covenant Hospice

Todd Torgersen, President, Combined Insurance Services

The “Inside Healthcare” project, funded by a grant from the Kugelman Foundation, features multiple components — free, open to the public town hall meetings giving citizens the opportunity to ask questions and weigh in on issues affecting them; a TV series produced from the town hall meetings; and a comprehensive website with links to local and national resources. “Health care is a major concern for the people of our area,” states WSRE General Manager Sandy Cesaretti Ray. “WSRE’s Community Health Initiative will identify and address those critical issues to help the people of the Gulf Coast be better equipped with the knowledge and tools to manage their own health. WSRE is pleased to serve as the conduit for this vital information and resources through the power of television.”

The final town hall topic in the series, to be taped on June 8, will address end-of-life decisions.
