Florida's State Budget is the Topic for WSRE's "Connecting the Community" June 23

Thursday, June 23 at 7 p.m. on WSRE, “Connecting the Community” delves into the hot topic of Florida’s State Budget issues.

The 2011 session of the Florida Legislature cut state spending by more than three billion dollars in response to a weak economy. No taxes or fees were raised but many teachers, state employees and others are voicing concerns over changes that affect them. Host Lloyd Patterson welcomes Senator Don Gaetz (R-Niceville) to answer the critic’s charges. The discussion also includes other recent legislative initiatives pertaining to voting restrictions and drug testing. Guests include Okaloosa League of Women Voters president Mary Blackwell; Santa Rosa County Teachers Union president Rhonda Chavers; and UWF professor Dr. Rosemary Hays-Thomas.

“Connecting with the Community” airs Thursdays at 7 p.m. and Sundays at 10:30 a.m. on WSRE, PBS for the Gulf Coast.
