Series Premiere of Local WSRE Program In Your Own Backyard Explores "Mantiques"

Wednesday, June 15 at 7 p.m., WSRE premieres the first episode of a new local series – “In Your Own Backyard.” The premiere episode will feature “The Sprague Museum.”

You never know what you might find “In Your Own Backyard!” Join WSRE as we explore our region’s collection of the unique and unusual. In the premiere episode, go inside Gulf Breeze resident “Flash” Gordon Sprague’s eclectic one-man museum — a treasure trove of “mantiques” — classic cars, vintage tractors and toys for all ages. Sprague is a retired financial services expert who amassed a collection worth millions for his local 6,000 square foot personal museum. Items of interest include a 1927 Chrysler Imperial Roadster, a 1915 Ford Model T pickup, an assortment of 1950s pedal cars, an American LaFrance fire engine, a variety of “Petroliana” (a.k.a., oil cans), an entire wall of license plates, a 1969 Dodge Daytona once driven by stock car legend Bobby Allison, antique gas pumps, and retro toys of every description, as well as a warehouse of vintage tractors that recall the days Sprague spent growing up on a farm in Vermont. Visitors to his private collection have included the Archbishop of Canterbury and United States Senator John Kerry.

“In Your Own Backyard” premieres Wednesday, June 15 at 7 p.m. on WSRE, PBS for the Gulf Coast. The program will repeat on Sunday, June 19 at 9:30 p.m. and Sunday, June 26 at 6:30 p.m.
