WSRE, PBS for the Gulf Coast, has won a National Telly Award. WSRE received a Bronze Telly Award for the original production “Lighthouses of the Gulf Coast: Sand Island to St. Marks” in the documentary category. This honor marks the seventh National Telly Award WSRE has won for original programming since 2008.
General Manager Sandy Ray states, “It is a tremendous honor to be selected for this caliber of recognition. We are proud to share this award-winning production with our community. It is all made possible by the community’s continued loyal support.”
WSRE’s original documentary tells the compelling stories of the graceful structures that symbolize the seafaring heritage of our region. These “points of light” have marked safe passage for mariners since the early 19th century. The program takes viewers on a visual journey to the critically endangered lighthouses of Sand Island and Middle Bay in Mobile Bay, the Pensacola Lighthouse (one of America’s tallest), St. George Island’s light station, the lighthouses of Cape San Blas and Crooked River as well as the oldest lighthouse still in operation on the Gulf Coast — the 1842 St. Marks Lighthouse on Apalachee Bay. Shot in high-definition, the hour-long documentary details the history of these magnificent towers with archival photos, maps and paintings. The documentary is available to watch in its entirety for free online at http://video.wsre.org or you may purchase a DVD for $25 by contacting WSRE at (850) 484-1240.
WSRE wishes to thank AT&T The Real Yellow Pages, Gulf Power, the Pensacola News Journal and all our WSRE donors for making this project possible.
